Degenerating oligodendrocytes were first seen at one week and increased in number after two weeks on the diet. By five weeks many axons were demyelinated and remyelinating oligodendrocytes were identified. The origin of these cells is discussed. Astrocytes and microglial cells were involved in the removal of the vacuolated myelin.
